Description

The program provides the necessary knowledge relating to investing and financing activities of firms and credit institutions, capital markets and financial markets. The program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to engage in business, finance, investment, insurance and services in general.

 

Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Examinations

The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment has accredited the European University in Cyprus to provide a route to attain the globally recognised CISI Investment Management examination andthe Risk in Financial Services Award whilst studying their Bachelor degree. This partnership is the first for the CISI in Europe, and aims to bridge the gap between academia and the workplace. The students will benefit from joining the CISI as a student member and be encouraged to join professionals at local events. This provides students with a unique opportunity to network and benefit from senior corporate exposure.

 

Exemptions from Chartered Banker Institute

The Bachelor degree in Business Administration of European University Cyprus with a major in Finance and Investment is the only academic program in Cyprus which has been awarded exemptions towards the professional programs of the Chartered Banker Institute of the United Kingdom.

The Chartered Banker Institute develops and promotes professional standards for bankers and provides world class professional qualifications for the financial services industry in the UK and overseas. European University Cyprus graduates with a major in Finance and Investment can be awarded the “Associate Chartered Banker Diploma” by completing the Institute’s compulsory module’ Professionalism, Ethics and Regulation during their senior standing. To complete the “Chartered Banker Diploma”, which is at honors degree level, the graduates of European University Cyprus need only complete two further modules.

 

Exemptions from the Chartered Insurance Institute

The Bachelor degree in Business Administration of European University Cyprus with a major in Finance and Investment is the only academic program in Cyprus which has been awarded exemptions towards the professional programs of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the United Kingdom for the Advanced Diploma in Insurance and the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning.

General Objectives
  • to develop the student’s capacity to think, write and speak effectively and creatively

  • to develop the student’s analytical, decision-making and communication competencies together with those qualities of self-reliance, responsibility, integrity and self-awareness which will promote personal achievement and contribution to organizations;
  • to build breadth of perspective through the general education requirements and provide sufficient specialization to meet basic professional and career requirements, but also lifelong learning and creativity related skills;
  • to provide the student with the necessary requirements for academic and/or career advancement.
Specific Objectives
  • To provide students with a strong foundation in business in general and in Finance, Investments, Insurance and Financial Service Industry in particular;
  • To provide a thorough study in Finance and Investments for students who want careers in the Finance, Investments, Insurance, Banking, Investment Funds, ETFs, Mutual Funds, Stock Exchange and Financial Services professions;
  • To center attention on the skills and knowledge required by the profession of a Finance and Investments or Financial Services expert, advisor or manager and to help students acquire knowledge and develop skills in this respect in a systematic way;
  • To assist the students in developing leadership capabilities which can be used in reaching innovative and optimal solutions to problems of Business in general, and especially in Finance and Investments, by keeping high ethical standards in place.
Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program the students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively and creatively in business situations through speaking, writing, and by use of electronic media and computerized systems with proper application of statistical packages, models and financial mathematics, where appropriate.
  2. Demonstrate awareness and capability of analysis of environmental (economic, financial, social, political, legal, and ethical) trends, including financial innovation, and their impact on entrepreneurial businesses, corporations and various investments.
  3. Describe the application of manual and computer-based quantitative and qualitative tools and methodologies in identifying and solving problems and making decisions in diverse finance and investments situations.
  4. Critically evaluate and apply concepts, techniques, strategies, and theories from finance, investments and behaviour of financial markets & institutions.
  5. Demonstrate financial analysis skills in financial statements interpretation and appreciation of the limitations of financial reporting practices and procedures.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of fundamental and modern issues in finance, investments, brokerage, insurance, and financial services, such as: risk management, actuaries, underwriting, mergers and acquisitions, regulation and compliance.
  7. Apply and simulate the major theories associated with the management of risk, such as portfolio management, asset allocation, asset pricing and the application of financial derivatives to practical problems, of investment decisions, various insurance practices and models.
  8. Describe the relationship between financial theory and empirical testing and develop the ability to analyze empirical evidence through research studies and real case assignment applications.
  9. Explain the factors influencing the investment behavior and opportunities of private individuals investing in bond, equity, financial derivative markets, pension funds, hedge funds, ETFs, insurance industry etc.
  10. Demonstrate their ability to build teams and work effectively within them in the finance sector.
