European University Cyprus Cultural Month dedicated to distinguished Cypriot, Michael Cacoyannis

European University Cyprus has established the annual “Cultural Month” events, cultivating and enforcing the indivisible relationship and constant interaction between Culture and Science. The “2018 Cultural Month” is dedicated to the great person Michael Cacoyannis, one of the few people in the Greek culture of the 20th century who was truly international.

European University Cyprus Rector, Professor Kostas Gouliamos, stated, “for European University Cyprus, the Cultural Month constitutes a fundamental guide to Education, as the events and synergies promote and shape aesthetics. The well-being and actions of social and humanitarian needs are promoted and shaped, in light of the long-standing nature of cultural values”.

The events will take place from Wednesday, 10 October to Wednesday 31 October 2018 and are held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, the Embassy of Greece in Cyprus and the “Michael Cacoyannis” Foundation in Athens. The opening ceremony of the "Cultural Month 2018 " will be held at European University Cyprus Cultural Center on 10 October at 19:00, with the inauguration address being delivered by the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus HE Elias Fotopoulos.

Michalis Cacoyannis was born on 11 June 1921 in Limassol and after studying legal, dramatic arts and film directing in London in 1947, he began his career as an actor. But he was quickly won over by film directing. During the cultural month, his films Electra, The Cherry Orchard, Eroica and Up, Down and Sideways will be screened.
