Posted: July 24, 2019

European University Cyprus was ranked 43rd globally for 2017 by the international university ranking organisation, The GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities, in the key and paramount benchmark in the field of “Energy and Climate Change”. This organisation evaluates and classifies the energy and environmental policy of universities around the world. It operates guided by the UN's decisions and provisions, as well as the international community's energy and environmental protection targets. In the field of "Energy and Climate Change", European University Cyprus is ranked in the highest position – with a significant difference – among all the universities in Cyprus and, in particular, the public universities that participated in The GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities (Cyprus University of Technology and University of Cyprus).

European University Cyprus Rector, Professor Kostas Gouliamos said:

“This is a huge achievement. It is worth mentioning that there has been a significant improvement in our performance, as we moved up from 79th place in 2016 to 43rd position in 2017. It is clear that European University Cyprus, with its 43rd position (as well as its general ranking), demonstrates not only the huge leaps it has made as a university – now being comparable to the world's top and historical universities – but also as an organization whose policies and entire culture on energy and the environment constitute a model of social responsibility, as they are rewarded in the international university ranking.”

Regarding the overall ranking of The GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities, European University Cyprus is among the 450 best universities worldwide, just behind the University of Cyprus and clearly above the Cyprus University of Technology. European University Cyprus is committed to promoting green policy for the campus and the environment under the guidance of an environmental committee.
