Alter Kick Off

In Athens, 12th & 13th of February 2018, ALTER project Kick Off meeting took place in the premises of the Geodynamic Institute of National Observatory of Athens. The project is co-financed by the European Commission – DG Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection. The Alliance for Risk Reduction (ALTER) has a duration of 24 months, focusing in creation of Public – Private partnerships for disaster risk reduction and especially on floods caused by Dams’ failure due to earthquakes.

Knowhow, technologies, good practices and experience from European Union will be transferred to Armenia through well planed activities. Those include, among others, evaluation of plans and civil protection structures, study visits, small scale field exercises, as well as training activities.

Partners are:

  1. National Observatory of Athens (coordinator) – Greece
  2. European University Cyprus – Cyprus
  3. Center for National Security and Defense Research – Bulgaria
  4. American University of Armenia – Armenia
  5. Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform Foundation – Armenia

The main project activities will be implemented in Armenia to strengthen cooperation with Joint European Civil Protection Mechanism and help in the optimization of civil protection system. Synergies with other initiatives in the broader area of Armenia will be sought on disaster risk reduction.
