The European University Cyprus has developed state of the art wet as well as dry laboratories for the courses of Medical Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Histology, Physiology, Pathology and Anatomy as well as amphitheatric lecture rooms and simulation rooms. Our laboratories are probably the best and safest laboratories in Cyprus. Small groups of students will ensure immediacy and complete evaluation and learning of all students without exception. Each one of the rooms feature video recording and telecommunication systems
Medical Biochemistry, Cell And Molecular Biology Laboratories
They are modern, new generation, state of the art laboratories in line with the international laboratory-safety and operating guidelines. They feature personal scientific drawers and lockers for the needs of each one student individually so to gain experience from his own effort; and specifications for multicast functionality as well. All of the scientific equipment are modernized, latest available in the market, state of the art, and in an amount that ensures availability for all students. Additionally, they offer a whole range of machines for practicing cytogenetic techniques, analyses and sophisticated studies on DNA and proteins such as high-pressure liquid chromatography machine, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy equipment, spectrophotometers, Hydrogen generator, PCR machines, real time PCR machine, Chemi-Dot machine for DNA/RNA/protein analysis, cell/tissue culture incubator, centrifuges, High speed refrigerated centrifuge machines, water paths, hoods, Western Plotting apparatus, automatic biochemical analyses machine (COBAS 3000), vacuum ovens, microscopes, precision scales, automatic pipettes for each student, pH meters, evaporators under reduced pressure, water deionizers, vacuum chambers, refrigerators, ice machine and dry ice storage unit are friendly to the environment and they comply with all environmental requirements, collection and disposal of hazardous / toxic chemicals and are ready to accept students for high level studies in all relevant disciplines that require courses in Medical biochemistry, chemistry, biology microbiology and human genetics.
There are amphitheatric classrooms with dual high definition projectors and with the capability for inter-communication between all rooms within the school premises. The rooms have the ability to be directly connected electronically (both audio and visual) with the microscopy laboratories and specifically with the microscopes, and also with the simulation rooms for training from anywhere within the school. Each room is equipped with a 360o camera with fine close focusing and ability to record the running courses in case there is an interest from students to repeat previous teachings or a need for intercom between lectures.
A state of the art computer room/laboratory could not be missing from such quality institution and even most with a set-up of one PC per student. This room can also be used for teaching, providing projection equipment and telecommunication abilities throughout the school. The Computer software programs are all high quality, three dimensional simulations with viewable virtual demonstration for courses like Histology, Physiology and Anatomy.
The conference room is fully equipped for electronic conferencing with the entire planet. The high-definition cameras and telecommunication systems can overcome the barriers of distance and bearing an online discussion seems like a simple task within the School premises.
The simulation rooms are observation amphitheater rooms for virtual monitoring and teaching scenarios in robotic models with parameters based on facts. There is the ability to set-up scenarios of physiologic health state and cases of cardiac, respiratory, postoperative, gastrointestinal, neurological and other disorders with simultaneous observation and monitoring of the progress of the diseases evolution through all necessary machinery; continuously monitoring and recording of data. There are two adult simulation rooms and one for juveniles and infants (Simbaby), all as a part of an independent observation amphitheatric room. The medical scenarios are simulated according to the needs of the courses, even for emergency case scenarios. Robot models have tremendous capabilities for a perfect and complete training of the students. They can incredibly imitate signs. And all these prior to student exposure to hospital and patient contact. We also have simulation rooms for consultation with standardized patients or real patients. The School of Medicine of the European University Cyprus also features a space that simulates a hospital ward in global standards and fully equipped with machines and simulators for every kind of illness and emergency. There are multiple simulations and scenarios like the need of placement of ventilators, nasogastric and catheters. Medical scenarios can be taught according to pre-planning and the needs of learning.
Histology & Microscopy Laboratory
The School features a Histology laboratory with a dark room for fluorescence microscopy with state of the art and high-quality educational microscopes (one per two students). It features a multi-head high resolution light microscope and an inverter microscope. There is the ability to display/project live microscopy within the histology lab-room, in high resolution, as well as in any other place within the school or even outside the school. The laboratory features telecommunication systems as all the other halls and a 360o camera for video recording.
Additionally, there are two multi- thematic laboratories for practical and skills training that can also be used for any other immediate need of room expansion of courses such as physiology, anatomy, or else. Multiple models and task-trainer simulators are capable to meet any need of faculty and of student’s training.
The School of Medicine of the European University Cyprus also features a space that simulates a hospital ward in global standards and fully equipped with machines and simulators for every kind of illness and emergency. There are multiple simulations and scenarios like the need of placement of ventilators, parenteral nutrition feeding and amputations. Someone can come phase to phase with tracheotomy cases, cancer incidence and of infant monitoring and scrutiny. Medical scenarios can be taught according to pre-planning and the needs of learning.
Dental Materials (Dirty Lab)
Dental materials lab is a dedicated space to develop / create dental phantoms, in addition to acrylic, gypsum and alginate models. Students start working on skills and prepare pieces to be used in the simulators. The lab is divided in four sections: Countertops with heavy machinery, Working stations / surface for students, Dental Chair and Teaching area. The lab adheres to rules and standards in regard to students’ safety and evacuation route. Have vast area for circulation between heavy machinery area, students’ working stations (centralized in the room) and dental chair.
Dental Pre-Clinical Training
Dental pre-clinical is a dedicated space for skills / dexterity / pre-clinical training, using specialized dental equipment and materials under professors supervision. Students will practice individually on how to manipulate dental phantoms, metal, acrylic, gypsum and alginate materials / models. Each working station must be equipped with a trimodular control unit, compressed air and energy outlets
At this lab students can simulate a dental patient in treatment position, incorporating limitations regarding working surface area, positioning and support equipment. Manipulate of dental phantoms under professors supervision to simulate and teach specific procedures and techniques - diagnosis and treatment delivery
The Dental Clinic consists by the Reception and waiting area, Patients restroom, Students & Staff changing room with restrooms, Common locker area outside, Supervisors station, Triage unit and Patient care units, Open units and Private units, Support lab, Supply management / distribution area, Sterilization area, Radiology, Panoramic X-Ray, Traditional X-Ray, Heavy machinery room and Disposal room.
