Academics S. Hadjipapa and D. Englezou Represent European University Cyprus at the Exhibition “The Silk Road: Her Journey” in China

European University Cyprus is pleased to announce the participation of Professor Sophia Hadjipapa and Lecturer Demetra Englezou in the international exhibition The Silk Road: Her Journey, held in Fuzhou, China. The exhibition features work by five women artists from Asia and Europe, highlighting cross-cultural creativity, artistic dialogue, and the increasingly empowered and central role of women in contemporary art.

The event is organized by the International Digital Economy College (IDEC) of Minjiang University, where European University Cyprus, as a strategic partner of the institution, offers academic programs.

The presence of the two visual artists, both faculty of European University Cyprus, reflects the active internationalisation of EUC and its active contribution to artistic and academic dialogue with Asia.

Artistic Contributions of the Two Creatives

Sophia Hadjipapa and Demetra Englezou presented works rooted in their personal and research-based artistic practice:

• Sophia Hadjipapa explores transcultural symbolic language, the relationship between materiality and spirituality, and the visual pathways between East and West.
• Demetra Englezou focuses on memory, emotion, and the subtle balance between absence and presence.

Their artworks aligned closely with the exhibition’s central themes—movement, transformation, and dialogue—offering perspectives shaped by their artistic journeys across Europe and Asia.

Artist Talks and Public Discussion

During the opening ceremony, the two creators, representing EUC, presented their artistic trajectories, highlighting the role of women in contemporary art and the influence of the digital age on artistic production.

This was followed by a guided tour and a roundtable discussion titled “Her Journey in the Digital Age: Art, Women, and Cross-Cultural Communication”, where the two EUC representatives contributed their experience and research-based insights.

The participation of the two academics in The Silk Road: Her Journey further strengthens the presence of European University Cyprus within international artistic and academic networks and underscores the value of the university’s collaborations with institutions across Asia.
