European University Cyprus signs a Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Agreement with the Joint Research Center of the European Union

EUC will collaborate with JRC on Common Doctoral Degrees with a focus on hybrid threats.  In a recently signed agreement, the two parties have agreed to collaborate in preparing a new generation of highly qualified scientists that will focus on an important issue; hybrid threats.

EUC will be offering its PhD in Occupational Safety and Health and its PhD in Computer Science and successful candidates will be spending time of their study (after successfully finishing the theoretical part of the program, in the form of taught classes) at JRC in Ispra.

The objective of the CDP is to establish strategic collaborations in these fields with higher education institutions characterised by research excellence and international reputation in the field in order to:

  • train a new generation of doctoral students in science and technology with a focus on the science-policy interface, able to understand the research needs at different stages of the policy cycle, capable of providing scientific support to policy and of using transferable skills in science communication and knowledge management;
  • co-develop, co-host and co-supervise doctoral studies between higher education institutions and the JRC;
  • strengthen collaboration between the JRC and higher education institutions by promoting mutual enhancement of related skills and competences, combining existing knowledge and capacities, and enhancing networking in key scientific areas.

CERIDES – Excellence in Innovation and Technology at EUC, will assist JRC with the development of models, methodologies, frameworks and tools.

It should be noted that European University Cyprus is the only University in Cyprus to have such an agreement with JRC.

CERIDES – Excellence in Innovation and Technology at EUC, multidisciplinary approach based on risk with applications in security, safety etc can provide an excellent supervisory basis for the candidates.
