Online meeting between European University Cyprus and Minjiang University of China

As 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and China, European University Cyprus and Minjiang University have organized an online meeting to celebrate this important milestone. The academic leadership of both universities made particular mention to the recent mutual decision of Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Chinese President Xi Jinping to upgrade the China-Cyprus relationship to a strategic partnership, further enhancing and extending the cooperation between European University Cyprus and Minjiang University.

More specifically, Professor Andreas Efstathiou, Rector of EUC, stated that “we will continue to work closely with Minjiang University, having as a significant landmark our joint ‘International College on Digital Economy’ (IDEC) in the historic city of Fuzhou, which serves as an exceptional academic ecosystem for cutting-edge knowledge and research synergy”. Professor Wang Zonghua, Rector of Minjiang University, emphasized: “we believe that with joint efforts, IDEC will set an excellent model of Sino-Cypriot higher education cooperation, not only in educating students in digital economy to serve the economic and industrial development of the two countries, but also in making an outstanding contribution to further consolidating the traditional friendship between China and Cyprus”.

Professors Loizos Symeou and Marios Vryonides, Vice Rectors of European University Cyprus for Academic and Research & External Affairs respectively, as well as Professor Kostas Gouliamos, former Rector and Senior Advisor for Strategic Development of EUC, highlighted the importance of IDEC as an essential pillar for the “Digital Silk Road” operation, which ultimately leads to a global community of shared future in the 21st century.
