Posted: August 11, 2021

European University Cyprus (EUC) has recorded one more notable achievement, as according to the latest international Webometrics Ranking Universities (July 2021 edition), which has evaluated 30,000 academic institutions, is ranked among the 7.2% top academic organizations worldwide.

EUC was also ranked 532nd among 3,238 universities in the European Union. In addition, the same evaluation ranked EUC third (after the two Cyprus public universities) among the 32 public and private universities, institutes and colleges of Cyprus.

The Webometrics is not a ranking of the websites of Universities; it is a ranking of Universities: it uses both webometric (all missions) and bibliometric (research mission)  indicators. Webometrics uses link analysis for quality evaluation.

The primary objective of the Webometrics is to promote Open Access for the knowledge generated by the University.

Webometrics was launched in 2004 with the aim to offer full coverage of Higher Education Institutions, regardless of country or discipline. The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions offering every six months an independent, objective, free, and open scientific exercise for providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world. The editors are scientists working at a world-class public research institution with great experience in metrics-guided evaluation. Currently, Webometrics ranked 30,000 Higher Education Institutions from more than 200 countries.

Professor Kostas Gouliamos, Rector of European University Cyprus, noted “achieving a world-class university status has been a long and complex process. Looking at the Webometrics factors, it is clear that perpetual and rapid progress has be made by European University Cyprus in a relatively short time period, focusing on four key factors of academic excellence: high-quality teaching, infrastructure, global partnerships, and research”.
