Medical Students of EUC participate in ETS 47th International Annual Meeting in Cologne, Germany

ETS-Annual-MeetingTwo 4th year students from the School of Medicine of European University Cyprus, Mr. Zeyad Al-Jazrawi and Miss Ismini Tzanaki were selected by the European Teratology Society (ETS) Council to present their research paper titled: “Poland Syndrome Complicated With Metabolic Syndrome and Gynecomastia”, at the 47th International European Teratology Society Annual Conference in Cologne, Germany.

Their research work was chosen as one of the only four papers selected each year to be presented as both an oral and a poster presentation at the Young Scientists Round Table Symposium. Their research was also published in the ELSEVIER Journal “Reproductive Toxicology” as an extended Abstract following a Peer Review.

The ETS International Society has been established in 1971 to bring together embryologists, reproductive toxicologists, pediatric pathologists, epidemiologists and clinicians to focus on the causes and prevention of birth defects. The core objectives of the International Society are to stimulate interest in and promote the exchange of ideas and inform about the causes and prevention of adverse effects on reproduction and development.

Mr. Al-Jazrawi and Miss Tzanaki were accompanied by their supervisor Professor Elpida-Niki Emmanouil-Nikoloussi, who has organized and chaired the International 32nd European Teratology Society Meeting in 2004 and the International 40th and 41st Teratology Society Meeting in 2012 and 2013. She is now a Professor of Histology-Embryology at the School of Medicine of European University Cyprus. She has served as an elected Professor and now serves as an Emeritus Professor of Histology-Embryology and Teratology, at the Laboratory of Histology-Embryology and Anthropology, at the Faculty of Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She has been elected twice as a Council Member of ETS and as the Presidential Officer of the European Teratology Society in Barcelona, Spain in 2010, becoming President of the European Teratology Society until the end of 2014. She now serves the ETS as a Past President.

This is the 3rd consecutive year that Miss Ismini Tzanaki and Mr. Zeyad Al-Jazrawi are granted the honor of presenting their work at the Young Scientists Round Table Symposium, under the supervision of Professor Elpida-Niki Emmanouil Nikoloussi. The 4th year medical students, have been actively participating in the ETS research field for the past 3 years; and they are also actively working towards very interesting future Scientific Projects.
