A member of the Family of European University Cyprus – as he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University since 2017, the Greek Minister of Finance, Dr. Christos Staikouras spoke as an official guest before the University Senate on the theme “Investments in the Age of Knowledge Economy”. He then gave a lecture to the University students titled “Challenges for the Economy and the Banking Sector in Europe”.

Mr Staikouras also referred to his academic cooperation with the University during a meeting with the Rector of European University Cyprus, Professor Kostas Gouliamos, the President and CEO of the Council, Dr. Christoforos Hadjikyprianou, and the Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus, Ilias Fotopoulos. The Minister underlined that he “had the opportunity to see the leaps made by European University Cyprus in the field of university education”, adding that “for someone currently serving at a Greek public university, these are remarkable achievements”.

He outlined what he considers as the advantages of European University Cyprus – dedication to excellence, research and innovation; extroversion; the close association with society, the real Economy and the Market; and the cultivation of a business culture – and stressed that relevant academic institutions should also exist in Greece, but “certain mentalities did not allow the establishment of Non-State Universities there”.
