Oral Cancer Prevention Week: European University Cyprus School of Dentistry Community Action
The first week of December has been established in Cyprus as Oral Cancer Prevention Week. As part of this important initiative, the School of Dentistry at the European University Cyprus, in collaboration with the Dental Services of the Ministry of Health, participates each year in public awareness activities.
On December 4, 2025, fifth-year dental students from European University Cyprus conducted a community prevention visit to the Agios Dometios Social Welfare Centre, accompanied by Dr. Smaragda Diamanti, Dr. Vasileios Zisis, and Dr. Chrystalla Charalampous.
During the visit, the students:
- performed oral cavity screening examinations
- provided oral hygiene education
- informed visitors about oral cancer risk factors
- demonstrated the basic steps of oral self-examination
- and distributed educational leaflets designed by the students themselves
The activity proved to be highly beneficial, both for the students, who gained valuable experience in community outreach, and for the centre’s visitors, who received useful guidance and education. It is yet another initiative that highlights European University Cyprus social role and reinforces the importance of community awareness for future dental professionals.
