Why not knowing where you want to be in 5 years is OK

Each of us had a moment to think about the future- who we want to be, where we want to live and so on. Sometimes, it is impossible to imagine, especially when you are simply uncertain about everything. We live in a culture where the decisions should be made now, at least this what we have learned from our parents.

However…

It’ s OK not to know. It’s more than OK. Our preferences and hobbies are changing- continuously. One day you like something in particular, and another day you prefer something else. When you are trying new things(e.g going to different internships) that’s how you are able to find who you want to be – at least for the next 10 years. Only by giving a chance to something new, you will be able to discover new sides of you and understand your capabilities.

Of course, it is scary to think about the future and what it holds for us. Especially, when it comes to ending chapter of life such as graduating from university, believe me, no one is 100% sure about what is going to happen. What you can do is to trust your gut, and go for something that you have in mind.

Today, everyone is living in a certain limbo moment, when every day there is something happening that can affect the job market as well as the economy. Everyone is continuously preparing for something to happen. Thus, there is no such thing as knowing how the world will look like in 5 – 10 years. Therefore, I suggest you to have a side hustle – something that you like to do the most. It does not guarantee a secure future, however, it is something that can grow into something big.

Believe in yourself.

P.S

If someone is going to ask the question:” Where do you see yourself in the future?” simply tell them: I am going to be me.
