Bridging the Occupational Gaps for Refugees and Asylum Seekers at European University Cyprus

An event titled “Bridging Occupational Gaps” was organized by European University Cyprus. The purpose of the event is to bring refugees and asylum seekers in contact with each other for information exchange, networking and mutual assistance. The event also aims to serve as a meeting point for the local community with these people who have been forcibly expelled from their hometown. Local community organizations and representatives of organizations and ministries dealing with refugees and asylum seekers met with the aim of launching a dialogue for better cooperation, as well as for providing information on four themes: a) work, b) housing, c) cultural and social issues and (d) health and rehabilitation.

The event took place on Saturday, 22 February at 11:00 – 14:00 at the Cultural Center of European University Cyprus.

The event was attended by Occupational Therapy students, academic and administrative staff of the university, participants of Occupational Therapy programs, potential employers, partners and associates.

The event is co-funded by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees – Cyprus (UNHCR Cyprus) under an agreement with European University Cyprus and supported by the Nicosia Municipal Multipurpose Center, the Help/Refugees/Work organization, as well as the HFC “Hope For Children” and the Cyprus Refugee Council.

The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Pavlina Psychouli, Occupational Therapist, Head of the Occupational Therapy Program at European University Cyprus.
