5th conference in Current Advances in Biomedical Sciences

The Department of Life Sciences of the European University Cyprus invites you to a two-day conference on Current Advances in Biomedical Sciences, on May 16th & 17th 2024, which will be held in auditorium Alpha at the European University Cyprus.

The conference is mainly addressed to students and graduates of Biological and Biomedical Sciences programs and aims to keep them up to date regarding the latest research advances in various fields of Biomedical Sciences.

On the morning of the first day of the conference (May 16th), lectures will be given on recent developments in various fields of Biomedical Sciences such as bioinformatics, the mechanism of action of the antidepressant drug ketamine, and the study of the toxic proteinopathy ADTKD-MUC1 as well as integrating gender balance in biomedical sciences research. Subsequent lectures will include cancer-focused topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis and treatment, the role of T cells in cancer, and mechanomodulation of tumor microenvironment to optimize anticancer therapy.

 The morning of the second day of the conference (May 17th) will be dedicated to training in blood drawing techniques by specially trained staff of the European University Cyprus. The maximum number of participants is 35 and priority will be given to fourth-year students of the Biological and Biomedical Sciences programs of the European University Cyprus. The afternoon of the same day will be focused on seminars, discussions and counseling regarding career prospects in the field of Biomedical Sciences, how to prepare graduates for the job market, in the fields of research and industry, but also how to combine a scientific career with other aspects of life. The lectures will be given by distinguished scientists from the University of Cyprus (Dr. Panos Zanos and Dr. Fotios Mpekris), the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (Dr. George Spyrou), the Center of Excellence in Biobanking and Biomedical Research of the University of Cyprus (Dr. Gregory Papagregoriou ), the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus (Dr. Kosmia Loizidou), the Limassol General Hospital (Dr. Simon Malas), the Center for the Study of Hematological and Other Malignancies (Dr. Philippos Demetriou), the Wiley publishing group (Dr. Iosifina Sarrou), the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Dr. Ourania Tsitsilonis) and the European University Cyprus (Dr. Athanasios Metaxas, Dr. Iakovos Nomikos, and Dr. Maria-Ioanna Christodoulou).
