If you are on your senior year as a bachelor’s degree student, surely you have thought about your next step. If not, then you should probably start thinking about it. However, while you are in the “thinking” process, you have to work on few things asap before applying to any chosen Master degree.

Put together a killer CV.

Most master’s degree applications require a curriculum vitae to be submitted, even if that’s purely on academic terms. If you haven’t had any job experience already or worked as an intern, try to focus on your skills, give a thorough and explanatory self-profile together and accompany it with a cover letter, explaining why you really want to part of that specific class.

Work as an intern.

You need to start somewhere and whilst having complete academic education matters, it never hurt anyone to be able to show some work experience. It might come as a surprise, but it does make a difference on a master’s application too, not just on your employment quest.

Ask those recommendation letters, early.

It’s essential to put extra time and thought on your recommendation letters. First, you have to think about the professor that knows you the most. Secondly, kindly ask they if they have the time to help you with the reference letter. One of the things that we have learned so far is that usually with the cooperation of a student and a professor the reference letter becomes more personal and shows that actually the person who was writing the letter put some thoughts and effort in it.

Study for any exam required.

Check the requirements of the Master –  you might be expected to take a language proficiency exam and/or, an entrance exam before your application is accepted. Make sure that you meet those criteria and plan in time – including the preparation time as well as test and the deadline for the submission of documents.

Improve your interview skills.

It’s common practice to ask the prospective student to attend an interview, usually via Skype. If it’s amongst the requirements, then go ahead and get ready. Search for the tips that are going to help you to nail the upcoming interview.

Good luck!
